The materials segment includes both the specialty polymers and composite materials businesses, and has been identified as the primary segment for growth and investment as part of Solvay&#8217;s G.R.O.W. strategy launched in 2019. In his new role, he will have commercial and operational oversight on both businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am delighted that Carmelo will be leading our materials segment,\u201d said Solvay CEO Ilham Kadri.\u00a0\u201cHe brings more than 20 years of experience in research and innovation, strategy, business\u00a0development and general management in advanced materials, which will be invaluable in helping us\u00a0deliver high-margin growth, progress innovation with our customers and drive sustainability in key\u00a0markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The materials segment had revenues of \u20ac2.6 billion in 2020 and provides advanced materials to\u00a0multiple markets. Solvay materials make cars and airplanes lighter and more fuel efficient; they make\u00a0Li-ion battery packs lighter and more durable; and implantable and medical devices safer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honor to take on this new role,\u201d said Carmelo Lo Faro. \u201cI\u2019m proud that our materials\u00a0segment is transforming many markets and enabling industry to create a sustainable future. I look\u00a0forward to working with our talented people to meet our customers\u2019 needs and grow together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lo Faro joined Solvay as part of its 2015 acquisition of Cytec Industries, which strengthened the\u00a0foundation for Solvay&#8217;s world-leading composite materials business today.
