The plant is located<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in Chieti, in the Abruzzo Technology Park.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid6\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">depolymerization<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">technology<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">adopted,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">based<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reaction<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">alkaline<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">hydrolysis<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with the use of microwaves, allows the plant to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">chemically<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">recycle<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">PET<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">polyester<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">textile<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fiber<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">waste<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">obtain<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">pure<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">monomers<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">produce new polymers<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid7\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The DEMETO proj<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ect has been co<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">funded by the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">European<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Union<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">under<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Horizon<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2020<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">program<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">NextChem<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">as<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">coordinator<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">consortium of 14 partners, covering the entire<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">value chain (NextChem, 3V Tech,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">SPINDO<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">X UK<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Technical University of Denmark, The European<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Outdoor<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">G<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">roup,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">EuPC,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Fricke<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mallah<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">GmbH,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">gr3n,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">H&amp;M<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Group<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">NEOGROUP, RECUPRENDA, PETCIA, SUPSI, Synesis).<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page3R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">NextChem is the developer and co<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">licensor of the depolymerization technology,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">owned by the Swiss start<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">up gr3n, as well as designer and constructor of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the plant.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Various types of materials, including polyester<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">based textile fibers, will be tested<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in the plant, which is capable of recycling almost 100% of the incoming material,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">amounting to one million kg\/year.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The project has been supported by an Industr<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ial Advisory Board, which includes<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">companies such as Unilever, Coca<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Cola, Oviesse, Danone, Henkel and several<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page39R_mcid0\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">This innovative technology could contribute to the solution of some still<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">unresolved <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page39R_mcid0\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">problems in textile waste recycling, such as mixed fi<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">bers. In Italy alone, tracked<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">textile waste amounted to 157.7 Kt in 2019, of which 47% consisted of single and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mixed synthetic fibers<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">3<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">. In Italy 5.7% of unsorted waste is composed of textiles<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with a total estimated at 663 Kta<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">5<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.
