BMW recognizes Arkema’s technical polymers for sustainability

Arkema is one of 15 global suppliers recognized by the famous German car-maker for innovation, specifically in high performance polymers derived from sustainable castor oil. Our leadership role in the Pragati initiative played a major role.

On November 21, at the BMW center for excellence in Landshut, Germany, BMW recognized 15 suppliers from across the globe for their outstanding achievement in 5 categories:

  • Sustainability
  • Productivity
  • Efficient Dynamics
  • Digitalization
  • Emotional Experience

In the category of sustainability, Arkema, BASF (grand prize winner), and Samsung SDI were each presented with a trophy and were each applauded for their outstanding achievements.

During the award ceremony, top management from BMW commented that „Arkema has initiated a sustainability project involving 2,700 India castor farmers, who have managed to increase their crop yields by 55 percent in just 2 years. Arkema uses castor bean derivatives to produce organic plastics for use in vehicles such as the BMW i3″.

Accepting the award on behalf of Arkema were Erwoan PEZRON, global president of Arkema’s Technical Polymers and Virginie DELCROIX, Arkema’s vice president of sustainable development.

The event was attended by 120 of BMW’s 3,000 suppliers.
