SCS welcomes new member EUMEPS

  • Association for European Manufacturers of Expanded Polystyrene becomes member of Styrenics Circular Solutions
  • Styrenics value chain alliance deepens as EPS strengthens the contribution of styrenics to EU 2025 plastics recycling targets

Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS), the value chain initiative to increase the circularity of styrenic polymers, has welcomed the association for European Manufacturers of Expanded Polystyrene (EUMEPS) as a new member.

EUMEPS is the voice of the Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) industry in Europe, representing the entire EPS value chain from raw material suppliers, EPS converters, recyclers, to supporting industries including machinery and additive suppliers. Its members include more than 1000 companies and 22 European national EPS associations.

Part of the styrenics family, EPS is a lightweight foam composed of 98% air and 2% polystyrene with outstanding protective and thermal insulation properties. Its applications range from building & construction to packagings of heavy white goods, foodstuffs to fragile medicines and transplant organs.

Jens Kathmann, Secretary-General of SCS, commented:

“SCS extends a warm welcome to EUMEPS. The drive that the EPS industry has shown in contributing to the circularity of styrenics is impressive. We look forward to deepening teamwork with EUMEPS across all of SCS’ activity, from collection and sorting to scaling up recycling technology.”

Jürgen Lang, General Manager of EUMEPS said:

“We are very pleased to join SCS. EPS is easily recyclable, and it is already widely collected for recycling in a number of countries across Europe. We are committed to the European Commission’s 2025 plastics recycling goals. Our participation in the SCS value chain initiative will strengthen the activities of both organisations towards full circularity, in particular around collection and sorting.”
