Chemical Recycling Europe has appointed John Sewell as its new Secretary General. Mr. Sewell will take on the position with immediate effect.Mr. Sewell brings almost 30 years of experience in the plastics industry, from process R&D, product and business development, market leadership and technology licensing.

Mr. Sewell replaces Mohammad Hayatifar who has successfully led the association for the last 2.5 years.

“I am grateful to Mohammad for the foundation he together with the CRE members has laid and his support during this handover. I am honoured to take on this role with Chemical Recycling Europe. My career being in the plastics industry I clearly recognise the value of plastics. The challenges presented by the leakage of plastic to the environment and the need to reduce carbon footprint are also clear. Chemical recycling is an essential part of the solution moving forward and the ongoing deployment of chemical recycling technologies is essential for Europe to reach the recycling targets set for 2025, 2030 and beyond. I am commited to doing my best to help the chemical recycling sector reach its full potential.”

Mr. Sewell takes on this challenge during exciting and important times for the plastics industry and specifically chemical recycling.

“Thanks to Mo for his leadership over these past 2.5 years,” Carlos Monreal, President Chemical Recycling Europe

“It has been a great journey. I am looking forward to working with John as well as Chemical Recycling Europe continues to promote the value and importance of the technologies to achieve the targets ahead of us.”
