In order to illustrate the practicability of Industry 4.0, VDMA presents an industrial application on each day during K 2016, the “Catch of the day”.
The company Reifenhäuser kicked off with a double-chamber pouch filled with water and milk powder. This pouch is used to provide essential needs to people in poor countries. The film for the double-chamber pouch has to be extremely impermeable, for hygienic reasons. Criteria such as processing temperature, handling of barrier materials and optimum melt flow are prime parameters. These functions have previously been planned, executed and tested separately from each other. But all pieces of equipment have recently become networked with each other. The operator has all essential values immediate available and viewable in an Operational Center. The Operational Center is part of a Digital Business Platform, with which Reifenhäuser customers can oversee the entire production process and intercede anywhere and at any time.
